- Hasbro coined the term "action figure" in 1964 when they debuted the first G.I. Joe figures at toy fairs.
- The first G.I. Joes (based on the 1945 film 'The Story of G.I. Joe') were 12 inches tall just like the extremely popular Barbie dolls that had debuted 5 years prior in 1959.
- The "Kung Fu Grip" referred to in the description text was simply the soft rubber hands made to hold weapons and such G.I. Joes were given in 1970.
- It wasn't until the 1970s oil crisis made plastics more expensive that the much smaller 3 & 3/4 inch action figures first appeared in 1974. G.I. Joe changed to this smaller scale in 1982.
